- Single wall boxes
- Double wall boxes.
Let us understand the difference between them.
Single wall Cardboard boxes
Single wall boxes are designed by using one layer of fluting. These types of boxes are most commonly used for shipping in the e-commerce industry. They are economical and provide the necessary amount of cushioned protection and rigidity in a shipping container.
Double Wall Cardboard Boxes
Double wall cardboard boxes are made using two layers of fluting instead of just one. The layers used are of different types therefore when combined provide the benefits of various flute types. Double wall boxes provide a great deal of strength. This makes them ideal for carrying the products that require a greater deal of protection than what a single wall box can provide. If we are using cardboard boxes for long term storage then double wall boxes are a better choice since they are more rigid.
Fluted Sheet Used
Flutes come in various sizes and each one of them has their benefits. Short flutes offer a greater degree of crush resistance than larger flutes, but larger flutes absorb more shock and provide more protection. There are A, B, C and E types of flute that are separately used in single wall boxes. Flute A has good rigidity as they are thick, flute B is used for die cuts whereas Flute C provides the necessary amount of strength that is needed for shipping goods. E is thinnest compared to any other flute therefore, commonly used as custom printed boxes and are not good for heavy items.
Double wall boxes are made using B and C flutes or using combinations like A/C, B/C or B/E. Boxes made through combinations are used for carrying heavy-duty containers since they provide extra padding and rigidity which make them ideal for heavy-duty goods.
Therefore, the major difference between single wall and double wall boxes is their ability to hold the weight of the goods.
